What a weekend we have had. Did I mention, I hate moving house! There is nothing more annoying and exhausting for me than packing up all of my worldly possessions into boxes and carting them off to somewhere new only to unpack them all over again.
That’s exactly what happened this week and on Saturday we had four men come to our house pick up all our belongings and cart us off to our new adventure.
Oscar (our handsome Frenchie) was really confused and rightly so, poor guy spent a couple of hours in his crate whilst his world moved around him. Thank goodness for crate training.
I cannot stress enough how great it was to actually hire removalists – professional, seasoned removalists. These guys made our life so much easier. As a twenty something I spent many years moving from one apartment to the other, all on a university study budget and never with the assistance of removalists. Always with the assistance of my beloved friends and family – who by our last move were ready to disown and “un”friend us because we had pushed them and ourselves to the limit moving all of our possessions – and let’s just say, even for two chicks we have a ridiculous amount of stuff.
This time it was different. This team turned up on time proceeded to load all our possessions onto their truck at lightning speed and also managed to dissemble beds and pack our wardrobes! There was a moment when they first arrived (and early) that my wife descended into that abyss of worry and stress, thinking there is no way we are ready for this move and these guys are going to think we are nuts for not having finished packing. Turns out they are used to it and in fact were about fifty times quicker than we would have ever been in whisking the remaining items into boxes and loading onto the truck.
Truck loaded and ready to go in super speedy time (1.5 hours) and we are off to our new home. Upon arrival we are greeted by the friendly building manager where we are given the key to a lift, which is for our exclusive use for 90 minutes. Let the procession of furniture, boxes and miscellaneous items begin!
Our items were despatched to our apartment within the allotted time, without any thanks to some of our neighbours – who kept stealing our lift – and our helpful men were off by early afternoon. So organised for a moving time we actually had time to head out and grab those elusive dining chairs (more on this to come).
It’s been a few days and some hard manual hours unpacking, rearranging, re-packing (the 10 boxes of unused glassware!) and cleaning building dust, but I have finally been able to grab some hard earned pool time and a gym session (poolside photo attached, and yes I desperately need a pedicure!).
I have tried to chronicle the move in photos below, but there will be more to come once the styling is complete over the coming months. The next step is to maximise space, where there isn’t much and style the apartment without spending tens of thousands of dollars.
