Hydrah releases a moody and beautiful E.P., Siren
Hydrah, Katie Kramarczuk has released a gripping, classically charged electronica E.P., Siren featuring powerful tracks, Ominous, Beauty and Chaos and Save You.
Siren is a typical broody dance track, however the strings punctuate the beat with fun and style.
Moody and dark, Ominous is a powerful piece juxtaposed between modern electronica and haunting piano and strings. The underlying beat surges through the introduction and the strings lifting the track into a pumping dance beat ready for any nightclub.
Beauty in Chaos continues the dance beat tempo but it is uplifting and lighter in style. What is clever is the accentuated beat with the strings and piano themes. In fact the multilayer of the strings with the vocal line build into a solid offering which highlights the vocal talent of Hydrah along with her instrumental abilities.
Returning to a much darker and broody mood, Save You has a fluidity with its underlying bass and piano. The track continues to build suspense culminating in the piano arpeggios and vocals. It’s the vocals from Hydrah that ultimately give the overall finishes touches to the colour of the track . In my mind Hydrah’s deft work on all instrumentals, including vocals create her best work here. Interestingly this track features samples from ocean creatures, Striped Eel and the Atlantic Dolphin.
Having worked as a conservation biologist on the beaches of Western Samoa and the jungles of Costa Rica it is easy to see where this appreciation for nature and animals has come from. This appreciation for nature coupled with Hydrah’s deep origins in classical music has created a perfect melding of two worlds. By combining her passion for science and music Hydrah has created a solid E.P. well worth listening to.
Affair is all out electronica with a beefy bass and synthesised sound. The track completes the E.P. with powerful force and gives Hydrah the chance to belt out some full forced vocals.
