A new experience for me – Polo and the social elite of Melbourne. That’s what I got this past weekend when I attended the Jeep Portsea Polo. Yet another stellar event by the boys who brought us The Pantry – it is the summer social event of the year.
Like most I have no idea about the rules of the game, but I’m also the first to admit it, just read my quote from the article in The Age. Turns out on the day the teams playing were: Portsea vs Sorrento, Top Gear vs Qato Capital or Peroni vs Jeep.
In the uber cool Shots by Genovese Marquee I sipped champagne (a little too much if I’m totally honest) and slurped oysters – word of advice, if you’re serving a bottomless pit of champagne, beer and cocktails the food needs to be plentiful! Lack of food being the only gripe, the event itself was a well managed and significantly well oiled machine.
On the fashion front, I opted for Tommy Hilfiger slacks with blazer and a Ralph Lauren Sport blouse. I was sufficiently comfortable, but then again I always go for stylish yet practical – we were after all out in a field! Now I am not one to claim fashionista status but watching some ladies, dressed more for a formal wedding than a day out at Point Nepean provided much entertainment.
Access to the park was via shuttle service and with most of the Mornington Peninsula attending, they did an excellent job ferrying in 6000 odd tidy attendees and equally getting the not so tidy aftermath out. Yes there were helicopters for the super elite, town car transfers galore and of course a few super yachts moored at the point.
Will I attend next year? Yes, for sure!
