This week my friends at Brighton Land Rover were kind enough to let me take out for a day the 2014 Range Rover Sport SCV8 Autobiography. So what better place and setting to test drive this amazing car than the picturesque Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
Luxury does not come any better than this, with a Supercharged V8 engine the Range Rover is the epitome of power and class. With features to rival a space station – take the Active Cruise Control and Queue Assist – this car can practically drive itself. The fully integrated Meridian 3D Audio Technology means you are well entertained whilst it does so.
For the environment conscious the 375KW Supercharged V8 engine has a claimed fuel efficiency of only 13.8l/100kms. Although I didn’t have the car long enough to burn through a full tank, on my 170km round trip the tank remained over 3/4 full.
The Autobiography range is the top level model including ultimate luxury with exceptional trim options – for example the suede roof interior adds an additional touch of extravagance. Able to brake on a dime courtesy of the upgraded Brembro Brakes and 22″ Alloys wheels, this is not a car for the faint of heart or light of wallet, with an on road cost of nearly $250,000. For the more conservative budget the Range Rover Sport starts in a TDV6 at approximately $113,000 on road.
As a car enthusiast and frequent traveller I have driven lots of different cars, at varying segments and price points i.e. BMW 650 Grande Coupe to Hyundai’s. So particular about the car I own and drive I have rarely, if ever, returned to my car and wished it was something else. That is until now.
Launched earlier this year with the help of James Bond (Daniel Craig – see below), this car is a delight to drive. If you ever wanted to drive luxury with a whole lot of grunt then this is the car for you.
